	Why is
		What is Music?

I find myself sitting in a club full at first
almost totally with men(boys)...then a few women.
	 Wondering why?
The night turned out to be the usual disappointment,
much more of a cringe than expected...

but it all ended on a high that made the night worth it.
this came in the form of Parmentier an outfit
originally from Auckland, now residing in Melbourne,
made up of Rosey Parlane and Dion Workman.

The term understated seems appropriate...
standing behind two black boxes, four-track and mixing desk,
Parlane and Workman
turn nobs, sit, role cigarettes, drink, talk, laugh.
There seems, during the set, to be time to do all this and
make some music.
At a recent night at the Landsdowne
there was even time for the two to move
out the front and have a dance with
					their creation.

The music is again like their presence understated.
Fleeting layers of noise wrapped around a simple drum loop.
This is mesmerising, wonderfully simple
while rich and complex in texture.

I was more than happy to sit on the floor at
the front and listen, watch, think.
As were many. Others talked through and over,
milled around in pub like fashion.
					there was no dancing however.
