Stelarc in Sydney, Wednesday 15th July

Stelarc was very quite on Wednesday night.

His
        "...screaming thunder music
        of the body rasping,
        creaking and groaning..."(Arthur Kroker)

was toned down. He spoke unmiked, his videos
turned low, no sounds of an amplified Third Hand
where present.

The first time I saw him perform,
        "Split Body: Voltage-in / Voltage-out"
        (24th November 94) in Melbourne,

I was stunned by the overload his performance created
on the senses and the adrenaline ruse this caused. Sound
was at the centre of this. His body functions and
machines amplified to the point where people try to keep
them out by pushing fingers into ears.

(When I talk of Stelarc I play the videos at peck volume.
Turned up for the students to enter the room. They peer
around doors not sure if they should submit themselves
to the sounds and images of this

        "Prophet of Doom" (Paul Virilio).)

Neither was a word spoken about the noises and sounds.
About what they are, where they are emitted from, how
they come to be.

Instead what we saw was a much smaller, much quieter version of Stelarc.
